Learn to love your job… or at least give it a try!

Many of us complain about our jobs on a daily basis.
We start nice and early in the week. “Is it Monday already. I hate Mondays. I don’t want to go to work! I hate work”. And that’s how it starts. Our attitude for the week is set.
But can we avoid that mind-set? Can we actually feel happy about going to work?
Well certainly we can take some steps to change our ‘dark’ feelings.
1. It’s all about positive mind set.
The most important thing is to get yourself motivated for Monday morning. Try not to set yourself in ‘I hate Mondays’ mode before you even go to bed on Sunday. Try to be positive and picture yourself having a really good and productive day at work. It’s all about your mind-set.
2. Organise yourself early!
On a Friday have all your tasks completed by the end of day and write a ‘to do’ list for Monday. That way you won’t be stressing out going to work on Monday morning.
When you know what lies ahead, it’s much easier to deal with it.
3. Work overload? Don’t panic!
Set yourself achievable goals and try to reach them throughout the day. If you feel overwhelmed with the amount of work and there is no way of completing tasks set by your boss, talk to them. Explain your worries. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. We all need it sometimes.
4. Good old Tea Break…
We tend to forget how important it is to take a few minutes break. We get so busy that we almost don’t step away from our desks. We make tea and we come back to our desk with it. We eat breakfast and lunch at our desk, while still flicking through emails.
We have to learn to relax. Step away from your desk or look out the window for a few minutes. You will be able to come back to what you were doing with a clear head.
5. Stop complaining! Smile!
Even if your job is really busy or demanding, complaining is definitely not going to help. You are going to make things even worse. You make yourself and everyone around you miserable. You will definitely lose interest and will not do anything at all. There is nothing you can do about the amount of calls coming through or the amount of files on your desk. Complaining will only delay things. Smile and get on with it. If you are not distracted with complaining and making excuses, you will have jobs done much faster. Smiling is contagious. You not only make yourself more positive but also colleagues around you.
6. Prioritise and focus.
Prioritise your work for the day and stick to the list. Focus on and complete one task at a time. Try not to get distracted by thinking of other things that need to be completed. You will get to them later. Jumping from one thing to another will only slow things down, so there is really no point.
7. Stop working after work.
Time after work should be your time to relax. Once you get home you should switch off. Checking your work emails or even thinking of what you have to do the next day at work, will only stress you out. It may seem difficult at first to completely stop thinking and talking about work after work. Make it a house rule. Focus on things you enjoy doing. Go for a walk or watch a movie. Just Relax!
