Job Alerts:

Register your CV:

Social Media:

  • Use the Social Networking Sites
  • Social networking sites offer exciting new ways to network with others, search for jobs, market your strengths, and more. The table below lists three of the most popular—LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter—and briefly explains some of the things you can do with them.

Linked in Account - LinkedIn is a business-oriented networking tool that lets you build a resume-like profile and use it to connect with others, as well as research and share information.

  • Create a sharp profile
  • Network with current and former colleagues and supervisors, professional groups, and friends
  • Ask for and give recommendations
  • Conduct job search activities (look for jobs, post your resume, etc.)
  • Conduct research on companies and employees
  • Track what people are saying about hot business trends and topics
  • Ask questions and get answers from the network.
  • Follow companies that are of interest.

Twitter - Twitter is a general networking tool that lets you build a brief, 160-character profile called a “handle”; follow people and activities; and send related messages called “tweets.”

  • Track what people and companies are doing and saying by following their “tweets”
  • Send brief messages with attachment files (a brief cover “tweet” announcing your new website, for example)
  • “Tweet” requests for information or referrals
  • Share your resume using dedicated, third-party software.

Facebook- Facebook is a personal networking tool that lets you build a personal page or “wall” which you share with others whom you “friend.”

  • Connect with friends
  • Connect with favourite groups or companies
  • Share photos, videos, and links to items of interest
  • Write short notes or longer documents on the items you are sharing

To create an effective profile, follow the same strategies you would for creating a powerful CV. Remember that your CV and your social networking profiles are important ways of communicating your brand.           

Remember, employers review your social media accounts so be conscious of what you post.

Register with reputable Recruitment agencies:

Key things to consider; ensure they are experts in the field in which you wish to secure a role, which preferred supplier agreements they have, is the agency working with clients that you wish to be employed by, is their reputation strong, are the consultants trained in your career path, how well established are they, do they have high turnover in staff – i.e. are you going to be dealing with a different consultant every few weeks? To optimize this service it is important to build a relationship with your recruiter.

Online job board:

There are many easy to navigate job boards out there which list great job opportunities. By registering your CV with them, you can keep up to date with the latest job vacancies. Recruitment companies, as well as direct employers, regularly use this method to advertise positions. Complete the registration section and you will be kept abreast of new postings.

Direct Applications:

Prepare a brief cover letter specific to the job.

Highlight clearly your suitability for the role by mirroring your credentials with the criteria required.  Provide clear, quantifiable examples from your work history to support your fit for the role.  Indicate your interest in the role and the organization. Be careful of over emphasizing personal reasons (such as relocation, redundancy etc.) for your application as communicating this in isolation can give the employer the impression that your interest doesn’t truly lie in the job opportunity or the organization.

Company Websites:

Many companies have their own vacancies listed on their website. If there is a particular company or organisation that you would like to work for, visit their website regularly or subscribe to their news feed and if something suitable arises, send in a direct application with your CV. Join their Linkedin page and follow them on Twitter and you will see all new company information and updates via their social media outlets. We would not advise multiple, ongoing, speculative applications. Submit your CV to a specific role that strongly matches your experience. Alternatively, contact your recruiter who will most likely have a relationship with the in-house recruiter in the company and will therefore be in a position to give you the inside track.

Job Fairs:

Whether you're a recent graduate seeking your first position or an experienced professional in search of a new opportunities, attending job fairs is one way to network and find job leads. Job fairs allow you to meet hiring managers from various companies and industries -- all housed under one roof for the day. Many have their own rules for networking and distributing resumes. Learn what to expect. It's usually possible to obtain a list of employers participating in a job fair ahead of time. Prepare in advance by investigating who will be there that holds particular interest for you and then research these companies. Hiring companies appreciate knowing that you have taken the time to understand their business.
