Overview / Purpose of the Role

This role requires a knowledge of sustainability initiatives, coupled with expertise in facilities management within the context of warehouse and distribution centres. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing sustainable practices, managing facility operations, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on our environmental footprint while optimizing facility performance.

Key Responsibilities Sustainability Strategy:
  • Develop and implement sustainability initiatives tailored to warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Identify opportunities for reducing environmental impact, such as energy conservation, waste reduction, and recycling programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability into all aspects of warehouse and distribution processes. Facilities Management:
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of warehouse and distribution facilities, ensuring optimal functionality and safety.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors for facility maintenance and repair services.
  • Knowledge of maintenance of the following equipment is essential:
  • HVAC, LEV, Boilers, Fire related equipment, Sprinklers, Generators, Cold Rooms (Fridge and Freezer), Roof Inspection and repair, Lighting, Electrical Distribution and Security Systems
  • Control and manage all contractor work H&S, including inductions, permit to work etc. Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay informed about relevant environmental regulations and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits to assess compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Implement corrective actions as needed to address any non-compliance issues. Resource Efficiency:
  • Monitor resource usage (e.g., water, electricity) and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies and equipment upgrades that promote energy and resource conservation.
  • Analyse data and generate reports on resource consumption and sustainability performance metrics. Training and Education:
  • Provide training and education to warehouse and distribution staff on sustainability best practices and procedures.
  • Foster a culture of sustainability awareness and engagement among employees at all levels of the organization. Key Experience / Skills / Education
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in sustainability management and facilities operations, preferably in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to collect, analyse, and interpret data to drive decision-making.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and a passion for driving positive environmental change
