Job Title: Senior Safety Engineer (Electrical Background)

Location: Galway 

Job Purpose:

The Equipment Engineering group specializes in developing, building, and validating machinery for the site's production facility.

The Senior Safety Engineer will lead a team to ensure the safety of all machinery developed and upgraded on-site.


Conduct and coordinate risk assessments for manufacturing equipment built internally.
Evaluate equipment for electrical and functional safety compliance. Assist Mechanical and Electrical Design engineers in designing suitable safety systems and architecture.
Review safety control systems and perform calculations to ensure CE standard compliance (e.g., ISO 13849).
Compile technical documentation for CE marking.
Ensure all equipment meets relevant safety standards and requirements.
Support ATEX and FMEA assessments of new manufacturing processes.
Create detailed reports documenting safety issues (e.g., touch-proofing in electrical cabinets, machine guarding issues).
Contribute to equipment redesign for electrical and functional safety improvements.
Provide technical leadership on safety-related product and process issues.
Collaborate with internal engineers to understand safety equipment requirements.
Work closely with internal and external teams to ensure equipment is built to site safety specifications and properly handed over to manufacturing.
Review the safety of equipment built by external vendors.
As Safety Team Lead, collaborate with internal and external specialists to complete equipment-related projects.
Report equipment safety incidents to senior management.


Degree in Engineering or EH&S discipline.
Ideally, an electrical background.
5+ years of experience in a similar role, with specific experience in CE Marking equipment.
Machine safety qualifications such as CMSE (Certified Machinery Safety Expert) or CECE (Certified Expert in CE Marking) are desirable.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a creative approach to problem-solving.
Quality System Requirements:

Demonstrate a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by adhering to the Quality Policy and all documented quality processes and procedures.
For supervisory roles: Ensure appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are available to maintain Quality System compliance and adherence to the Quality Policy.
