Job Title: Planner / Buyer

Reporting to: Supply Chain Manager

Overview of responsibilities:
The planner/ buyer will have the following direct responsibilities:
  1. Purchasing of all raw materials for assigned product families (to include steel and packaging)
  2. Purchasing of all consumables associated with manufacture of assigned product families (grinding wheels, tooling etc.)
  3. Planning of job orders on shop floor (planners work bench, routers and allocating work to saws)
  4. Generating daily, weekly and monthly metrics as required.

Detailed Responsibilities:
  1. Run the purchasing workbench on a daily basis and action all material requirements
  2. Expedite all materials shortages as required
  3. Manage the raw material inventory levels to ensure quarterly targets are achieved
  4. Manage the packaging material to ensure correct levels are maintained
  5. Purchase all consumables required to manufacture your assigned product families
  6. Purchase all tooling required to manufacture your assigned product family
  7. Working with maintenance, purchase all machine spares and expedite breakdown parts as required.
  8. Where applicable manage the outside process vendors
  9. Measure vendor supply performance and hold quarterly reviews with top 5 suppliers
  10. Issues purchasing performance metrics as defined by the supply chain manager
  1. Action the planning workbench on a daily basis
  2. Issue routers to the shop floor
  3. Working with the other planner / buyers determine the correct sequencing of jobs to be cut on a daily basis to meet TOC line performance
  4. Provide daily feedback to customer service in relation to customer expedite requests, order status updates and problem orders on the shop floor
  5. Working with the operations manager set the sequence of job at the bottleneck process on a daily basis
  6. Issue a daily “drum schedule”
  7. Working with the operations manager ensure TOC lines are hit on a daily basis
  8. Issues planning performance metrics as defined by the supply chain manager

Education / Experience requirements:
  • 5-7 years planning/purchasing in a machine orientated manufacturing environment
  • APICS qualification essential
  • Strong Microsoft package experience (word, excel and power-point)
