Design Assurance Technician

Our client is a medical device company based in Galway and is recruiting for a Design Assurance Technician to join their fact paced team. As the Design Assurance Technician you will be working with the Design Assurance team in a test laboratory environment, being responsible for sample and new product testing, simulated life testing, failure investigations, test data management, report writing and Test Method Validations. Take the lead in training new DA staff in test methods and equipment. In the absence of the Section Leader Design Assurance, the Design Assurance Technician will report to a Senior Design Assurance Engineer. It is typically a test laboratory environment, with work also performed in R&D office environment, and customer/supplier locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support new test method development and appropriate test method validation.
  • Execute simulated life tests on products and accessories.
  • Collate test data and write test reports.
  • Investigate failures using formal problem-solving techniques.
  • Train new DA staff to latest test methods and usage of equipment.
  • Maintain and calibrate test equipment.
  • Support external audits including notified body and FDA audits.


  • At least a diploma in Electronics or Engineering or Science.
  • At least 3-4 years’ experience working in a test laboratory environment with medical devices and/or electronic based products.
  • Experience with test equipment such as Intron Tensile Testers, LCR and multi-meters.
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills plus verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of mechanical ventilation and accessories would be advantageous.
  • Formal training in problem solving methods, test methods and/or process validation would be advantageous

  • Ability to work within a team environment to achieve agreed company goals.
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) information effectively.
  • Planning and co-ordination skills, handle time management, self-starter.
  • Understanding of quality systems.
  • Understanding of new product design control process.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Have a good command of the English language and ideally have had exposure to technical report writing.
