Overall Purpose:

The Engineering Manager will lead building an engineering team to support the commercialisation of the Athlone facility as a high performing sterile drug product manufacturing site.
The Engineering Manager will report to the Operations Director and will be responsible for the following:
  • Site Maintenance Systems & Strategy
  • Maintenance Team Performance
  • Equipment performance metrics (OEE, d/time, etc.)
    • Manufacturing Systems
    • Black/clean utilities
  • Site calibration
  • Site Safety & Environmental Systems
  • Site Automation Support
  • Management of FM support service & performance
  • Energy management
  • Engineering budgets

The Engineering Manager will also play a key role as a member of the site’s management team in

Essential Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Manages the Engineering Maintenance technical resources including technicians and contract resources required to support site objectives.
  • Establishes and leads the site’s Maintenance Steering Group to ensure alignment across site stakeholders on the site’s maintenance approaches and how maintenance activity is designed, performed and monitored.
  • Leads the development of site maintenance roadmap for the Athlone site to ensure Athlone’s maintenance processes deliver excellence in asset care performance and that site maintenance approaches are aligned with our lean operation approaches.
  • Leads the design, introduction and management of site maintenance systems such as CMMS, spares, safety permitting for Technical Services and Manufacturing maintenance personnel.
  • Establishes and leads the site’s Maintenance Steering Group to ensure alignment across site stakeholders on the site’s maintenance approaches and how maintenance activity is designed, performed and monitored.
  • Supports colleagues in the US in the establishment of maintenance systems as required.
  • Owns site energy and waste performance, energy and waste budgets and monitors site performance from a budget and environmental perspective. Leads continuous improvement in this area and leads site representation at EHS and Environmental audits.
  • Owns maintenance SLA budgets, spares budgets to ensure the site is maximising benefit from site maintenance spend.
  • Coordinates site shutdowns from planning, execution, return to service, safety and GMP perspective.
  • Ensures all personnel in their team are diligent in the completion of all documentation to the highest GMP standards.
  • Ensuring site asset management is compliant with HSA equipment and leads establishment and maintenance of the site’s relationship with our insurers.
  • Represent the site for maintenance/utility in front of HPRA/ FDA / HSA inspectors during audits.

Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Understands maintenance system design to ensure excellent asset performance.
  • Familiar with pharmaceutical utility equipment such as WFI generation & distribution, clean steam generation & distribution, cleanroom HVAC, steam boilers, air compressors, etc.
  • Strong technical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and other computer applications i.e. CMMS.
  • Strong leadership skills and is a team player with good proactive approach & manner.
  • Knowledgeable of the regulatory and GMP requirements for maintenance activities.
  • Familiar with EHS and Environmental standards.

Education Required:
  • Degree in Building Services/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical certification/trade in a business service, mechanical, electrical or related field.

Experience Required:
  • 8 years+ experience in a high volume manufacturing organisation with at least 3+ years maintenance/facilities leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment/Hazards and Physical Demands:
The physical demands include those required of a normal office position and engineering shop floor support in a cleanroom environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate objects or controls and to sit, talk, see, and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, and lift or move up to 5kg. The employee is occasionally required to crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders to access technical areas. The employee must be capable of wearing protective and/or safety equipment as needed.
