Principal Equipment Engineer
Galway – Hybrid
Job Purpose
Early engagement with equipment requestors to define the scope for their equipment needs. Develop concept solutions & cost estimates with respect to the agreed scope.
Equipment Engineering is a unique function of for this site with a purpose of delivering innovative and effective automated equipment and systems solutions by researching emerging technologies and applying them to improve manufacturing processes.
Working within Equipment Engineering, the successful candidate will guide the development of new equipment technologies across the site. They will partner with R&D and Operations on both Sustaining and New Product Development Programs by engaging at the project idea phase to define scope and set direction on the selection of the correct project solution to meet quality, cost and timeline requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with equipment owners to understand their manufacturing challenges and gain a deep understanding of the solutions they require.
- Work with equipment owners to develop the correct user requirement specifications that meet the intended use of the final solution.
- Develop solution concepts in line with quality, service and cost requirements.
- Work with the broader Equipment Team to develop concepts and cost estimates for upcoming projects prior to customer final approval.
- Develop Request for Quotation (RFQ) documents for external vendors prior to submission of quotes.
- Work with external vendors to attain accurate quotes for project requirements.
- Prepare and present detailed proposals on proposed solutions.
- Provide detailed handovers to implementation engineering teams.
- Liaise with Project Technical Leads to discuss key project requirements.
- Perform the role of Technical Lead on key strategic equipment program:
Qualifications and Experience
- Candidates are required to hold an Engineering qualification equivalent to or above NFQ Level 8 (240 credits)
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Must have demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, an excellent ability to communicate at many levels, and an ability to form strong cross-functional working relationships quickly and effectively
- Works cross functionally to influence, coordinate and drive activities related to Equipment Engineering deliverables.
- Participates on cross functional project teams to develop clear specifications, influence project direction, evaluates feasibility of concepts through prototyping and risk assessment activities.
- Ability to transfer customer needs into solutions.
- Ability to develop and communicate system concepts to a wider team is essential.
- Must demonstrate an imaginative and creative approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Must be self-motivated and demonstrate an energetic work ethic when defining project requirements.
- Strong understanding of the principles of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
- The ability to consult & interpret both Mechanical & Electrical drawing information is preferable.
- Strong computer MS Office skills (PP, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Fundamental understanding of Project Management Systems, principles, and activities.
- Team performer with proven ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Keen interest in automation and the latest technologies in this field
