Principal R&D Engineer

My client a Start Up Medical Device company are searching for a technical Principal R&D Engineer for their Galway site. The company is entering a really exciting phase and this role is offers excellent opportunity to be an integral part of that. 

Reporting into the Director of Engineering, this Principal Engineer position plays a key role in leading the R&D function and the development of devices in the companies’ portfolio.

As the Principal R&D Engineer you will:

• Lead and mentor the R&D Engineers in the Product Development Group
• Lead the Design and Development process for both new and transfer products from Development phase up to Transfer to Production
• Gather clinical/user needs and translate into technical specifications
• Manage component/assembly design
• Prototype and DV testing
• Test method development
• Generate, analyse and interpret test data
• Develop and deliver project plans to performance, time and cost targets
• Liaising with external resources to achieve project goals
• Implement the risk management process
• Identify product testing required

You will need:

• A Minimum of 10 years’ experience in medical device design/development or similar role in a medical device company
• Mechanical Engineering degree or higher
• Strong technical aptitude with a detailed understanding of fundamental engineering principals
• Knowledge of materials (Nitinol, stainless steel, polymers) and processes used in medical devices
• Fundamental knowledge of statistical analysis. Six Sigma Black Belt => “nice to have”
