Senior Chemical Process Development Engineer Company Overview: Our client is a lead in the photochromic industry for more than 25 years and has a great opportunity for a Senior Chemical Process Development Engineer to join their team. The Role As Chemical Process Development Engineer, you will provide a link between the R&D development and the mix lab; implementing and rolling out the process for scaling up the manufacture of commercial dye solutions, within Operations. This role will provide technical leadership on the handover from R&D to Operations. The successful candidate will work with R&D and the new product development team to ensure the timely and problem free introduction of new coating solutions into production, across multiple manufacturing sites. The successful candidate will play an active role in the improvement of the Coating Manufacturing process through benchmarking and global collaboration. Key Responsibilities of the Role RD Interface: ● The successful candidate will be the key contact with the R&D teams for the introduction of new solutions and regulatory related enforced raw material changes to coating solutions. ● Attend the monthly R&D new project co-ordination meeting, to be informed of the new product projects. ● Work with R&D to support the identification of the operational and product performance risks possible with the manufacture of new solution. ● Provide regular updates to the Mixing Operations, Global Engineering and R&D team on the status of projects and results. New Product Process: ● The incumbent will be a member of New Product Project Teams, to identify & overcome Technical challenges, risks and resources constraints ● The successful candidate will work with Global Engineering & Product Stewardship Groups to introduce a robust process for handing over new coatings solution from R&D to Mixing Operations Industrialization: ● Support the Global Engineering Industrialisation process by participating and eventually leading Technical Risk Assessments (TRAs) & FMEA’s related to the introduction of new coating solutions. This is to identify & mitigates risks related to; ⮚ Mixing process requirements and procedure, ⮚ Impact of equipment differences, ⮚ Raw material variation and raw material specifications ⮚ Scale up to production batch size, ⮚ Solution qualification process. ⮚ Storage of raw material and solutions ⮚ Multiple site manufacture, ⮚ Shipment of solution to multiple sites ⮚ Provide support to Operations team after initial start-up of new products to ensure timely and problem free introduction of new solutions to operations. ● Work with the resourcing and scheduling of the new solution projects, and develop and work to agree timelines for the Industrialization of the new Product’s from a solution manufacture perspective ● Provide technical support to issues detected in testing ● Work with the industrialization engineers globally to identify risks and opportunities for improvement in the mix lab industrialization process. This is to further optimize and improve the robustness of the Industrialization process. ● Create close cross-functional working groups with R&D, GQ, Mix Lab, and Operations. Global Reporting: ● Required to provide regular, comparative reports to the key stakeholders and worldwide operations and the global engineering team on the status of projects, results achieved as well as propose the path forward or next steps. ● Ensure timely and consistent communication across the global organization. A travel commitment of approximately ~ 30% is a requirement for this position. Requirements ● Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Polymer Science, Engineering or Science is required ● Minimum of 3 years’ experience in process development, operations, engineering or chemical engineering or R&D ● Experience of working with bulk chemicals, coating processes, mixing of chemicals or process scale up would be a distinct advantage ● Demonstrated record of accomplishment and proven ability to manage technical details. ● The incumbent must have a detailed knowledge of engineering and process technology systems coupled with proven project management capability. ● Influencing skills at different levels in the organization. ● Good communication skills. ● Proficient English to enable contribution on conference calls, written communication & report writing. ● Knowledgeable in process problem solving and Lean Sigma ● Experienced in using Microsoft Office tools, ● Experience with Statistical software applications and tools would be an advantage.
