Senior Digital ASIC Engineer

My client a medical device company based n Mechelen Belgium, is looking for an experienced Digital ASIC  Engineer skills to join their team

Our R&D Advanced Innovation – HW Technology Platform Department is currently looking for a Senior Digital ASIC Engineer in our office in Mechelen to help drive our most advanced digital (sound) processing ASICs in our most advanced technology nodes

You will join a global team of skilled and very passionate engineers. You will take ownership of electrical work packages within projects and be accountable for progressing and reporting on these, taking initiative to resolve issues or escalate where needed.  These work packages include Specification, design, prototyping, characterisation and verification of ASICs and electrical hardware for hearing implant systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse user needs based on cross-functional inputs (systems, firmware, electrical) and translate these to ASIC requirements
• Responsible for high quality digital ASIC requirements, design documentation and working closely with the ASIC vendor to ensure optimal design tradeoff decisions are made
• Identify and investigate solutions to requirements and problems
• Interface with and support ASIC design partners
• Combine your ASIC digital design expertise with cross-functional inputs from internal colleagues to ensure optimal design trade-off decisions are made
• Conduct and lead engineering analysis activities including brainstorming, concept generation, risk analysis, DFMEAs and design reviews.
• Makes decisions in the face of ambiguity; sets priorities accordingly
• Provide final sign-off of digital part of the ASIC design files from ASIC suppliers
• Stay up to date with the state of the art in digital ASIC development
• To follow-up and evaluate available ASIC/FPGA technology for use in implantable hearing aids
• Develop, review and execute test plans, test protocols and reports for verification of ASICs against specifications under various environmental conditions and across process corners
• Identify, understand, and develop requirements for test environments (custom and off-the-shelf electrical hardware, measurement equipment, Python framework ….)
• Identify unexpected behaviour or failures and collaborate with internal colleagues and ASIC vendors to debug these, understand the root cause, and evaluate solutions or workarounds
• Follow all applicable development processes and methodologies. These may be part of internal policies, applicable international standards, applicable regulatory requirements and/or specific team processes. Where needed suggest improvements to current V&V processes and procedures
• Ensure order and quality through checking and monitoring of your own work and that of the others.

 About You

• Electrical Engineering Master or Professional Bachelor degree
• At least 5 years of digital ASIC design experience
• Good knowledge of Digital ASIC development (VHDL, System C, verification, synthesis)
• Keep well informed about latest ASIC and FPGA technology developments in general
• Knowledge of ASIC system partition and interface aspects
• Fluent in all parts of a custom digital ASIC design flow:
• Good understanding of front-end digital design, synthesis and back-end digital design
• Good understanding of DFT / DFM
• Good understanding of IC technologies and processes
• Basic understanding of the analog design flow and other aspects of the design flow
• Experience of working with foundries and test house
• Pragmatic problem solver of difficult problems and producer of solutions outside the standard procedure
• Team worker with strong drive for achievement and quality
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills
• Quality minded, focused on details
• Excellent communication skills
• Good verbal and written English language skills
