Senior Project Engineer

Our client, a medical device company in Cork are currently looking to recruit a Project Engineer for their site on an hourly contracting basis.

Job Description
Support Engineering Team leaders through responsibility for specific projects within a determined project group, for the support of processes under development, introduction to manufacturing, or ongoing support as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Look for breakthrough technologies to reduce manufacturing cost or lead-time.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of innovative solutions/technologies to deliver lower costs and shorter lead times.
  • Product/Process Developments (Specific Product Line)
  • Management of transformational process developments
  • Support Engineering Team Leaders through Maintenance of Current and Future State Value Stream Maps
  • Identify, justify & Manage budgets & capital spend requirements for new products and process developments.
  • Determine facility and equipment layouts for manufacturing cells.
  • Strategically plan unit cost of production reduction - Reduce cost of manufacture on a year-by-year basis
  • Implementation of Lean principles in Process development ?Process Value Stream Mapping, 5S, SMEAD, Line Balancing etc.
  • Support Annual Business Planning Process for capital and budget generation
  • Management of strategic machine capacity database with 20% excess
  • Project Management
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting on project activities.
  • NPI?s & Product Transfers
  • Lead or actively participate in cross-functional teams to ensure New Product Introduction/Research and Development projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Support new product development.
  • Co-ordination of cross functional team members for defined projects
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and a clear identifiable work ethos within the manufacturing engineering team.
  • Actively participate and assist in selection and recruitment of new employees.
  • Develop and maintain a Credo based culture within the manufacturing engineering group.
  • Create opportunities to reward and recognize success of project teams and individuals
  • Preparation and maintenance of manufacturing specifications for specific projects
  • Ensure Effective Closure on Corrective Action Requests, NCR?s, CAPA?s, and Maps etc.
  • Ensure all process developments, NPI etc. are managed in accordance with the Quality management system.
  • Ensure all production equipment meets all Health & Safety requirements by the completion of required documentation.
  • Implementation of safety/environmental requirements on purchase of all new equipment

  • Work with the Engineering Function to develop and implement strategic Engineering Goals & Objectives
  • Support the implementation of all engineering and plant strategic initiatives
  • Work with Engineering manager to ensure consistency within the engineering function at a plant wide level

Qualifications and Education
  • Obtained as a minimum a Degree in Science, Mechanical/Production or Manufacturing Engineering and +2 years? experience in a medical device/healthcare/pharma/aerospace environment or comparable hi-tech environment.
  • Previous project management/Leadership expertise of a major new equipment introduction, process modification, NPI or Product transfer.
  • Proven track record in development and Installation of manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead sub teams within a project and give direction to fellow team members, contractors, vendors to complete tasks to a defined timeline.
  • Self-motivated, with focus on Quality, Timelines and Cost.
  • Knowledge of ISO Design & Drafting Standards within a design & manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of foundry / sintering processes.
  • Experience with managing projects across multiple sites / locations.
  • 3D CAD/CAM experience using Unigraphic?s or equivalent.
  • Post graduate Master?s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Certified Six Sigma qualifications.
  • Certified Project Management qualifications.
  • Leadership skills

  • Knowledge of equipment and process validation and documentation procedures and processes
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Methodology/Certification Requirements
  • Relevant Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 1 years? experience in a technical position
  • Advanced technical degree
  • Prior experience in a GMP or medical device manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience in equipment and process validation activities
  • Process development experience
