Supply Chain Lead

There is an exciting opportunity for a Supply Chain Team Lead to join the Supply Chain Team based in Waterford site. Reporting directly to the Supply Chain Manager, this role will lead a high performing team, managing the flow of materials/products throughout the full supply chain in order to provide high quality products on-time and in full to our customers. While supporting the continuing development of the supply chain to meet the changing needs of the business, this role will have responsibility for identifying and managing continuous improvement projects along with ‘hands on’ daily activities.

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following qualifications and experience criteria:

  • Qualified to a minimum of degree level or equivalent work experience
  • Preferably have a formal Supply Chain Management qualification, e.g. APICS, IIPMM or equivalent
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in logistics and production planning along with experience in leading a high performing planning and/or purchasing team
  • Must have experience in managing customer relationships and be able to liaise effectively within all levels of our own business as well as within the customers business
  • Must have worked in a volume manufacturing environment with hands on production planning experience, preferably in a medical device or highly regulated manufacturing environment
  • Proven track record in interpreting customer demand and production schedules in complex volume manufacturing environments, from single piece parts to multi-level assemblies
  • Must be detail orientated with the ability to prioritize and organize tasks to deliver on business objectives within a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work on their own initiative with strong problem solving and decision-making ability
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral essential
  • Must have advanced experience with SAP, or equivalent ERP system
  • Must be highly computer literate in Excel and Microsoft office packages

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Responsibility for the day to day planning activities for key customer accounts
  • Managing, analysing and actioning customer forecast data
  • Working directly with the operations team to forecast and analyse plant capacity data to determine headcount requirements
  • Develop and communicate machine cell production schedules to the key stake holders, both from a repeat production and a new production introduction perspective

Lead, support and develop the planning team:

  • Sales Order management and interpreting MRP output data with respect to production schedule, plant capacities, at both a machine cell and cleanroom / white room assembly areas, and purchasing requirements
  • Co-ordinate, with a ‘hands on’ approach, all planning and logistics activities relating to internal and external key supply chain flows, in accordance with the company documented requirements
  • Monitoring production schedules, expediting resources that delay schedules and altering the schedules to meet unforeseen demands
  • Making sure product delivery dates are met as agreed with the customer
  • Ensure Customer relationships are maintained

Lead, support and develop the purchasing team:

  • Responsible for managing the SAP system, inventory and invoicing through the key supply chain flows including cycle counting, BOMs and other key activities
  • Analysing and interpreting bills of material, vendor specifications, etc, to ensure materials are supplied and delivered to the specifications required
  • Monitoring supplier performance and taking corrective actions as required
  • Negotiate pricing, price changes and other terms and conditions with suppliers to obtain the best return at the most cost effective prices possible while retaining quality specifications
  • Providing forecast data to key suppliers
  • Ensure Supplier relationships are maintained

Lead, support and develop the supply chain team in areas of:

  • Continuous Improvement – to develop a culture of cross functional continuous improvement to maximise efficiencies and remove non-value add activities wherever possible
  • Standardised work – lead the Weekly Supply Review Meeting focusing on key Supply Chain performance indicators and identifying related actions required
  • Standardised work – lead the Weekly Planning Meeting to ensure all stakeholders are agreed on current plan and on forecasted plan across the full demand horizon


  • Ensure all planning and purchasing procedures are fully documented
  • Ensure all related documentation is completed correctly
  • Ensure all Customer / Supplier Commercial Agreements are maintained and updated where required
  • Recruitment – assist with recruitment of team members in line with resource requirements and job specifications
  • Responsible for employee development through coaching, mentoring and succession planning in line with the company Strategy Plan
  • Continual support of team members as part of standard work helping with problem solving and skill development to aid learning and early problem resolution
  • Compliance to all site Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, training and regulations
  • To perform additional team tasks as required to support the effective running of the business.
