I chose to work in the recruitment industry because when returning to Ireland from New Zealand in 1996 it was difficult to find good job opportunities. I left Auckland in a great job with a company car and car phone! Like many, I reached out to recruitment agencies and mostly came away with a feeling of unworthiness. It was then that I realized there had to be a better way to help people like me on their job search. I realized the importance of the candidate experience and how we make people feel on their career journey. That’s when HERO was born.

What I love most about working with people is our uniqueness. We are all so very different and I love working with people and companies on innovative talent acquisition projects that bring the right team dynamics together to achieve greatness. Recruitment, unlike most businesses has two clients, the company hiring and the job seeker. There is great fulfilment in the alignment of our clients and candidates to bring together synergies and partnerships that last.

I’ve learnt a lot during my 25 years in Recruitment and have much still to learn. What stands out most is the value in being authentic by being ourselves rather than trying to be the person people want us to be, genuinely listening to others (still work in progress!) and that our people are our biggest stakeholder.
