Job Specification
Job Title: Facilities Engineer
Reports To: Engineering Manager or Designate
Purpose of the Role
To provide technical support to the manufacturing facility through the execution (hands-on and/or via third parties) of new facility setup, fit-out, commissioning, ongoing maintenance, and improvements. This includes optimization of facility and production layouts and flows in line with business goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the engineering department, you will be responsible, in part or in full, for the design specification input, procurement, installation, commissioning, ongoing maintenance, and continuous improvement of facility plant equipment and services in a regulated environment. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Engineering & Projects
Lead plant engineering and corporate programs including mechanical integrity, energy conservation, and refrigerant compliance.
Implement project plans for new or existing equipment and facilities.
Support installation and repairs of equipment to ensure continuous, safe operation.
Ensure new machines/equipment are installed and commissioned efficiently in accordance with safety and validation procedures.
Provide support in the areas of installation/operation/process qualification of new equipment.
Plan and execute plant, office, and production equipment layouts and flows to maximize utilization and operational efficiency.
Maintenance & Reliability
Conduct root cause failure analysis for equipment failures and develop preventive maintenance procedures.
Develop and control building and plant maintenance programs to ensure fabric, systems, and equipment function correctly and efficiently.
Maintain up-to-date plant layout and utility/service drawings in line with business and regulatory requirements.
Facilities Management
Manage facilities-related contracts including projects, maintenance, security, and cleaning in line with procedures and best practices.
Manage facilities project works from inception to completion, including contractor supervision and control of design, specifications, materials, and handover documentation.
Manage daily site facilities activities and coordinate contractors to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and quality control.
Propose new or alternative use of space and furniture layouts to ensure maximum utilization.
Develop and maintain management information for all facilities functions to aid performance enhancement and strategic development.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
Maintain a healthy and safe work environment in line with policies and procedures.
Promote health and safety awareness and ensure compliance with statutory and best practice standards.
Comply with all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies and related documentation.
Comply with all relevant training requirements and adhere to associated procedures.
Prepare technical documentation such as standard operating procedures, safety programs, validation protocols, technical reports, engineering calculations, change controls, and other required documentation.
Present technical data to internal/external audit and inspection groups as needed.
Collaboration
Develop and maintain relationships with personnel across departments to achieve engineering objectives.
Education & Experience Requirements
Minimum of a Degree in a technical discipline with 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
ORDiploma with 10+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Experience:
Background in medical device and/or pharmaceutical industries
Experience managing and operating cleanroom environments and building management systems (BMS)
Maintenance and troubleshooting of:
HVAC systems
Compressed air
Water systems
Preventive maintenance scheduling
Process gases
Power distribution
Fire suppression systems
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of cGMP and safety standards relevant to cleanroom/controlled environments
Clear and concise verbal and written communication
Excellent problem-solving skills and decision-making ability
Team-oriented, results-driven, and proactive approach
Proven time management and reliability
Positive, service-oriented attitude with strong interpersonal skills
Proficient computer skills
Capable of working to tight project timelines and approved budgets
Adaptable and responsive to changing priorities
Proven track record in current or previous role
