Our client, a leading biopharmaceutical company, is rolling out a Shop Floor Integration Layer (SIL) program using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform across multiple sites. This initiative is a key step toward seamless manufacturing connectivity.

To keep things on track and avoid delays, they are proposing to add a Project Lead / Project Engineer on the business side. This role will focus on coordination, planning, and issue escalation without carrying the full weight of a traditional Project Manager, while remaining closely connected to site-level work.

Why This Role Matters

The SIL program is central to advancing digital manufacturing maturity, enabling real-time data flow, automation, and efficiency across operations. Ignition’s SCADA/MES capabilities require site-specific adaptations, and the current team is stretched.

This role will:

  • Bridge global program goals with hands-on site execution.

  • Gather requirements and document standards.

  • Advance progress to ensure milestones are met and risks are managed effectively.

  • Drive execution as well as change management, fully dedicated to the SIL initiative.

Role Details

  • Level: Mid-level

  • Experience: 5+ years in project engineering or management, ideally in automation project management within pharma/industrial automation (Ignition SCADA/MES, shop floor integration, etc.).

  • Reporting: No direct reports; collaborates with site PMs and global teams.

  • Location: EU-based (mostly remote, with regular travel across European sites – 11 in total, 6 located in Ireland).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop detailed project plans for each site, including milestones, resources, and Ignition setups.

  2. Collaborate with site PMs to customize plans to local needs and challenges.

  3. Monitor progress daily/weekly using tools such as MS Teams or Ignition reports.

  4. Provide weekly updates to the global team, covering progress, risks, and integration metrics.

  5. Manage scope changes formally, assessing impacts on timelines and system integrity.

  6. Flag and escalate technical or integration issues promptly for resolution.

  7. Track and coordinate global team support (expertise, funding, etc.).

  8. Develop and document shop floor integration standards to ensure cross-site consistency via Ignition.

  9. Gather requirements from sites through consultations, workshops, or surveys to inform standards and execution.

  10. Drive work forward, grounded in site realities, to ensure practical implementation and effective problem-solving.

  11. Travel as required across EU sites and globally.
