Your New Journey

What an incredible two weeks it has been in Rio! The Olympics have captivated us with the exceptional talent showcased across a wide range of sports, catering to every individual's interests and goals.

Just like Olympians, each candidate on their job search journey sets their sights on a specific objective. They train, prepare, and put forth their best efforts to represent themselves and overcome any challenges that come their way.

As a recruitment consultant specializing in Supply Chain and IT roles, I understand the significance of discovering new, talented, and driven candidates on a daily basis.

With the IT sector experiencing continuous growth in Ireland, it is crucial for us to select candidates who possess clear goals and are willing to prepare themselves to meet our clients' objectives to the best of their abilities.

The journey a candidate undertakes in their job search can take various forms...

A Walk in the Park

The Skibbereen brothers, Paul and Gary O'Donovan, secured Ireland's first-ever Olympic rowing medal, capturing the hearts of the nation with their delightful and humorous interviews. Their passion for rowing propelled them to where they are today. Through rigorous training and unwavering dedication, they went to Rio to showcase their talent. When asked about their tactics for the final, Paul famously said they were going to "pull like a dog."

"Aim for point A to point B as fast as you can, close your eyes, and pull like a dog."

For candidates, their journey may not always be as lighthearted, but many are incredibly focused and determined. They approach the interview process with a resolute mindset, working diligently to secure their desired position.

Too Close for Comfort

Mo Farah claimed the gold medal in the 10,000m race, but it wasn't without obstacles. The Londoner overcame a mid-race fall and surged ahead of the competition during the final push.

Similarly, candidates may face setbacks and rejections before achieving success. However, they persevere and continue to pursue their dream job, treating each unsuccessful experience as a valuable learning opportunity.

The Luck of the Draw

Michael Conlon gained widespread recognition following his controversial elimination without a medal in Rio. The judges' decision at the quarter-final stage sparked debates about the scoring system.

From time to time, recruitment consultants have the difficult task of delivering disappointing news to candidates. Despite positive feedback and a strong fit for the role, sometimes someone else possesses that extra special quality and secures the position. We may question ourselves, wondering if there was anything more we could have done. Candidates face the same uncertainty, realizing that interview panels and the candidate pool's standards can be unpredictable.

However, it is vital to persevere and never give up! As a recruitment consultant, my goal is to guide you towards your desired destination, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

Together, we will embark on a journey to achieve the gold position, overcoming any obstacles that may come our way!
