Job Title: Technician III (R&D Structural Heart)

Location: Galway, Ireland

Client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technician III to join its Structural Heart Research & Development team in Galway. This exciting opportunity allows the successful candidate to play a key role in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where innovation and teamwork fuel career growth and technical excellence.

As a vital member of the R&D Group, the Technician III will support product development through technical testing, equipment maintenance, prototype creation, and inventory coordination. This new position is pivotal to advancing Medtronic’s cutting-edge solutions for structural heart therapies. The ideal candidate will be involved in multiple projects and gain exposure to a wide range of technical and engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Constructing, troubleshooting, calibrating, adjusting, testing, diagnosing and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems and devices.

  • Leading or supporting test planning, test execution, and test result reporting for medical devices.

  • Operating laboratory equipment and documenting test data in line with protocols.

  • Participating in root cause investigations and contributing to problem-solving initiatives.

  • Performing calibration and alignment checks, and preparing materials or compounds as required.

  • Interpreting and working from engineering drawings, schematics, and instructions.

  • Managing and executing R&D Build Requests, inventory control and component tracking.

  • Assisting with prototype development and assembly for early-stage R&D initiatives.

  • Collaborating across multiple product development teams to drive project execution.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma qualification (Level 7 NFQ or higher) in an Engineering or Science discipline is required.

  • 1–2 years of relevant industry experience, ideally in medical devices, laboratory, or operations environments.

  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies, equipment use, and data interpretation.

  • Experience in managing R&D build requests and inventory control is highly desirable.

  • Proactive team player with strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.

  • Committed to high standards of quality, patient safety, and ethical conduct.

  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
