Part-Time Microbiology Medical Scientist – Limerick (20 hours per week)

Our client in Limerick is seeking a Microbiology Medical Scientist to support their busy laboratory operations. This is a part-time role (20 hours per week, spread over 4–5 days), offering flexibility and work-life balance while contributing to meaningful healthcare innovation.
About the Role
As a Microbiology Medical Scientist, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the microbiology laboratory. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with hospital microbiology experience who is ready to bring their skills to a dynamic medical device environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the safe and efficient operation of the microbiology laboratory in line with health, safety, and quality standards.
Writing, maintaining, and enforcing laboratory procedures and documentation.
Operating and maintaining microbiology lab equipment and performing testing.
Preparing microbial cultures, reagents, and maintaining detailed records in compliance with GLP and biosafety protocols.
Assisting and training non-scientific staff in handling live organisms.
Supporting audits and contributing to continuous improvements in lab practices.
Managing inventory, restocking supplies, and conducting routine safety checks.
Collaborating with EHS, Facilities, and cross-functional teams.
About You
Registered on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by CORU.
Fellowship (or eligible for fellowship) of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (FAMLS) or equivalent.
Membership (or eligible for membership) of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (MAMLS) or equivalent.
Minimum 2+ years’ post-qualification experience in a hospital microbiology laboratory.
Strong knowledge of ISO 15189 standards, quality assurance, and microbiology best practices.
Familiarity with antimicrobial susceptibility testing and laboratory information systems.
Excellent communication, planning, and interpersonal skills with the ability to train and mentor others.
