Water Treatment Engineer
Senior Water Technician
Department: Water Treatment Services
Reporting to: Technical Manager / Operations Manager
Role Purpose
We are seeking a Senior Water Technician / Water Treatment Engineer to support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of water systems across multiple sites.
You will be responsible for monitoring, testing, servicing, and reporting on a wide range of water systems, including:
- Hot & cold potable water systems
- Closed-loop systems
- RO (Reverse Osmosis) and Demin systems
- Boiler and condensate systems
- Process water systems
- Associated water treatment plant and equipment
This is a hands-on technical and compliance-focused role, ensuring all systems meet:
- Statutory regulations
- Water hygiene standards
- Legionella control requirements
- Environmental standards
- Internal procedures
Key Responsibilities
- Water Testing & Site Work
- Temperature monitoring and system inspections
- Water sampling and Legionella testing
- Closed-system checks and hygiene tasks
- Cold-water tank inspections and disinfection (e.g. showerheads)
- Field testing using handheld meters and kits
Key parameters include:
- pH, temperature, conductivity, TDS
- Hardness, chlorine, inhibitor levels
- System-specific water quality indicators
You may also test:
- RO and Demin water
- Boiler feedwater and condensate
- Process and discharge water
- Fault Finding & Analysis
- Interpret test results and identify trends/issues
- Recommend corrective actions (e.g. dosing adjustments, further sampling, escalation)
- Support basic troubleshooting:
- Flow/pressure checks
- Filter changes
- Chemical top-ups
- RO system support and cleaning
- Escalate complex issues where required
- Systems & Equipment
You will work with:
- Water softeners
- RO and Demin systems
- Chemical dosing systems
- Filtration systems
- Closed-loop heating/cooling systems
- Boiler feedwater and condensate systems
- Pumps, valves, meters, and sampling equipment
- Compliance, Reporting & Documentation
Accurate record keeping is essential.
You will complete:
- Service and site visit reports
- Water sampling and test records
- Compliance and corrective action reports
- RAMS documentation
- Chemical usage logs
You may also support:
- Weekly / monthly / quarterly reports
- RO performance reporting
- Boiler and flow meter readings
- Wastewater discharge records
- Legionella monitoring logs
All reporting must clearly capture:
- Work completed
- Results and findings
- Issues and risks
- Actions taken or recommended
- Health, Safety & Environmental
You will work in full compliance with HSE procedures, including:
- Following RAMS and site rules
- Safe chemical handling
- Correct PPE usage
- Reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses
- Protecting water quality and environment
- Confidentiality of systems and data is required at all times.
- Client & Site Responsibilities
This is a field-based, client-facing role.
You will:
- Work with facilities and operations teams
- Communicate findings clearly and professionally
- Coordinate with contractors and internal teams
- Manage your own site schedule and access requirements
- Ensure all planned and reactive work is completed on time
Experience & Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following:
- Water treatment / water hygiene
- Environmental science or chemistry
- Plumbing (including industrial plumbing)
- Facilities / building services maintenance
- Engineering or utilities systems
Desirable:
- Legionella control experience
- Closed-loop systems
- RO / Demin systems
- Boiler water treatment
- Chemical dosing
- Industrial, pharma, or manufacturing environments
A basic mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret test results is essential.
A full clean driving licence is required.
