Working Model: Hybrid – 4 days onsite with flexibility around core hours
Travel: Occasional travel within Ireland
Site Overview
The Galway site is undergoing significant expansion, growing from approximately 260 to over 430 employees. This mixed-use facility has a strong Research & Development focus and is currently establishing a new Centre of Excellence.
Two laboratories are already operational, with additional labs under development as part of the site’s continued investment.
The R&D function is scaling rapidly and offers an exciting opportunity for an EHS professional to support a dynamic, innovation-driven environment while contributing to the build-out of new facilities and safety frameworks.
Role Overview
The EHS Engineer will provide hands-on Environmental, Health & Safety support across R&D laboratories and office environments. This is a highly visible role suited to an early-career professional eager to make an impact in a growing site.
As expansion continues, the scope of the position will evolve, allowing the successful candidate to help shape EHS practices, influence safety culture, and drive continuous improvement.
Reporting directly to the EHS Manager, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure compliance, enhance safety standards, and support operational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive EHS support across laboratory and commercial office settings.
Assist in developing and implementing laboratory safety best practices.
Adapt and deploy EHS policies aligned with site and regulatory requirements.
Partner with R&D teams to promote a proactive safety culture.
Identify risks, recommend corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage waste programs and support environmental compliance.
Contribute to occupational health and wellbeing programs.
Support the safe setup of new labs and facilities as the site expands.
Act as a confident voice in challenging processes and driving safety improvements.
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements:
Minimum 4 years’ experience in an EHS role.
Background in manufacturing, life sciences, medical device, or pharmaceutical environments.
Strong understanding of chemical safety.
Level 8 qualification required (Master’s degree preferred).
Proven problem-solving mindset with a solutions-focused approach.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Desirable:
Experience supporting R&D environments.
Ability to influence stakeholders and work independently.
Open to learning — training will be provided in specific areas where required.
