Role Overview
We are supporting a leading high-tech manufacturing organisation in the appointment of an Engineering Manager to lead the sites Process and Test Engineering function.
This is a senior engineering leadership position with responsibility for shaping the sites long-term industrial strategy, driving advanced manufacturing capability, and leading the deployment of automation, robotics, and high-speed precision manufacturing technologies.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with proven people leadership, industrialisation, and capital investment experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Process & Test Engineering function, with responsibility for the sites industrial engineering and manufacturing engineering activities.
- Define and implement the sites long-term industrial and manufacturing strategy, aligned with broader business objectives.
- Drive the adoption and optimisation of advanced manufacturing technologies, particularly robotics, automation, and high-speed, high-precision systems.
- Lead the industrialisation of new products and processes, ensuring robust deployment from development through to production.
- Manage complex manufacturing engineering projects, including the deployment, commissioning, and optimisation of automated and robotic manufacturing systems.
- Develop and manage the sites industrial investment and capital expenditure programme, supporting annual investment planning and prioritisation.
- Monitor automated equipment and manufacturing performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, increased efficiency, and asset utilisation.
- Ensure high standards of process performance, compliance, quality, and operational excellence across the site.
- Lead standardisation initiatives across products, processes, equipment, and manufacturing technologies.
- Provide technical leadership on significant engineering changes, manufacturing processes, and equipment decisions.
- Manage relationships and interfaces with wider global engineering, operations, product, and manufacturing functions.
- Lead and coordinate the sites industrial and manufacturing engineering teams, supporting capability development and effective resource planning.
- Define programme and budget targets and ensure delivery against agreed objectives.
- Participate in key operational, technical, project, and investment review forums.
- Support wider manufacturing sites during production ramp-up, industrialisation and complex process-related challenges.
- Promote a culture of innovation, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and best practice across the engineering organisation.
People & Leadership
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Provide clear technical and strategic direction while developing engineering capability within the organisation.
- Act as a key engineering leader, influencing stakeholders across operations, manufacturing, product development, and global engineering functions.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Degree-qualified Engineer, ideally with a strong background in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, electrical or automation engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' relevant professional experience, ideally gained within a high-volume or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Strong high-tech manufacturing experience.
- Proven experience leading Process, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering teams.
- Demonstrated experience implementing, commissioning, and managing robotic and automated manufacturing systems.
- Strong understanding of advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, robotics, and high-speed precision manufacturing.
- Experience managing industrialisation and manufacturing engineering projects from concept through to production.
- Experience with capital investment planning, equipment selection, and industrial budgets.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing performance, including delivery, quality, productivity, and asset utilisation.
- Proven ability to lead continuous improvement and drive operational performance.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across site and global functions.
- Strategic thinker who can translate long-term manufacturing objectives into practical site-level initiatives.
