Automation Project Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Automation Project Engineer to provide technical leadership and project management across manufacturing operations and new product introductions (NPIs) in a GMP-regulated, pharmaceutical environment. This role will focus on the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of control systems, and requires collaboration across engineering, IT, and quality teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical support and lead control system projects for manufacturing and NPIs.
- Drive qualification and validation activities for control systems during project start-up.
- Collaborate with IT to integrate new automation systems into existing network infrastructure.
- Lead control system aspects of capital and continuous improvement projects.
- Develop and manage future control system integrations with MES, ERP, and data historian platforms (e.g., OSI PI).
- Ensure lifecycle compliance of control systems with internal procedures and regulatory standards.
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain control systems, ensuring proper documentation and system integrity.
- Identify vendor improvement opportunities, support vendor qualification, and review technical documentation.
- Comply with EHS policies and promote best safety practices on-site.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- NFQ Level 8 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Diploma in a relevant engineering discipline.
- 2+ years of automation experience in a pharmaceutical or medical device environment.
- Proficient in PLC, HMI, and SCADA system development within GMP settings.
- Strong understanding of 21 CFR Part 11 compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with plant start-ups and NPIs in regulated industries.
- Proven capability in the qualification and validation of control systems.
- Familiarity with internal auditing and inspection processes is an advantage.
