Senior Controls Engineer

Purpose
To support the Equipment Engineering team in the design, development, manufacture, and testing of advanced manufacturing equipment used in the production of medical devices.
Key Responsibilities
Define the control platform and lead software development for new equipment and system upgrades.
Participate in design reviews, ensuring all documentation is delivered in compliance with quality standards and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Take ownership of the complete equipment design lifecycle, from concept and specification through to final handover.
Develop new PLC, HMI/SCADA, and related control system code in line with User Requirement Specifications.
Oversee or contribute to the electrical and safety design for new equipment and upgrades.
Ensure the use of best-in-class control and automation practices in all system designs.
Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Lead and actively participate in cross-functional design and project reviews.
Manage projects or sub-projects as part of larger engineering initiatives.
Develop and maintain project schedules, collaborating with cross-departmental teams to ensure deadlines are met.
Prepare quotations, concepts, and business cases for new or upgraded systems.
Take a lead role in equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
Contribute to day-to-day operations, driving continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
Effectively balance and prioritise multiple concurrent projects.
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience in PLC programming for machine automation (RSLogix).
Strong background in HMI/SCADA design, preferably using Rockwell FactoryTalk View.
Competency in PID design and tuning.
Familiarity with FactoryTalk Historian systems.
Hands-on experience with servo and motion control, including encoder and homing setup within Rockwell Studio 5000.
Exposure to robotic automation (Kuka, Denso).
Proficient in industrial network commissioning and setup (EtherNet/IP).
Solid understanding of machine electrical and safety design aligned with the European Machinery Directive and related standards.
Strong project management capabilities and the ability to deliver results under tight deadlines.
Experience working within regulated manufacturing environments (medical device or similar).
Excellent technical writing, multi-tasking, and prioritisation skills.
A collaborative team player, capable of motivating and supporting other engineers.
Proactive and solution-driven with a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic, Automation, or Controls Engineering.
Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a similar automation or controls engineering role.
