Role Overview
The Assistant Logistics Manager will lead day-to-day logistics operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, customer service, and operational efficiency.
This role plays a key part in driving a high-performance, cost-effective logistics function through strong leadership, continuous improvement, and collaboration across the wider supply chain and commercial teams.
The successful candidate will lead by example, fostering a safety-first culture while leveraging lean principles, digital tools, and team engagement to deliver service excellence in a competitive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Environment & Compliance
- Drive safety and environmental compliance across all logistics operations
- Work closely with EHS teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk
- Act as an ambassador for high standards of safety and behaviour on site
Logistics & Operational Excellence
- Plan, lead, and optimise all logistics activities, including third-party haulage partners
- Deliver operational efficiency and customer service improvements through lean methodologies, digital tools, and team engagement
- Optimise logistics costs by eliminating waste and maximising resource utilisation
- Ensure accurate material receipt, picking, and shipment
- Maximise On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) inbound and outbound delivery performance
Systems, Projects & Change
- Lead logistics activities as part of ERP (SAP or equivalent) and systems upgrade projects
- Support logistics strategy development as part of the wider supply chain leadership team
- Contribute to cross-business logistics integration where applicable
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, develop, and engage the logistics team to achieve high performance
- Actively manage and develop haulage and logistics partners
- Build strong collaborative relationships with Operations, Sales, Finance, HR, and other internal stakeholders
- Manage industrial relations in partnership with Human Resources
Performance Management
- Define, track, and deliver key KPIs including:
- Safety
- Operational efficiency
- Stock record accuracy
- Customer service performance
Communication & Working Relationships
Internal:
- Collaborative team player with the ability to influence and negotiate across multiple functions
- Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal, across technical and commercial audiences
External:
- Effective communicator with customers, logistics partners, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Stock Management, Business, or Front-Line Management
- Strong IT skills, including MS Office and SAP or equivalent ERP systems
- Lean / WCM / Six Sigma certification desirable but not essential
Experience & Competencies
- Proven experience in a logistics or warehouse management role (ideally within manufacturing or construction materials)
- Demonstrated success in change management and project delivery
